July 16, 2009 - Steve Hoovler

I haven't had my rain jacket on for two whole days.  I have to check, but I think that's a record for this season so far, and it looks like the streak might run into the weekend.

I've been on the Madison every day for over two weeks now. Dry fly fishing has moved on from golden stones and salmonflies to several types of caddis, pmd's, flavs, and green drakes. Warm, calm mornings have been great for spinners and egg-laying caddis. Evenings (without thunderstorms) have seen the regular eruption of bugs and fish we all love to see on warm summer nights. Afternoon cloud cover brought pmds to the surface several times this week keeping the fish looking up for most of the day. When the dry fly bite has been slow nymphing with a prince, hare's ear, pheasant tail, or serendipity has been solid.

Thanks to Bob, Ryan, David, Gina, Andrew, Ross, Trey, Ray, and Jordan for a great week of trips! Stay Tuned.
